During the implementation of the project, the following actions were carried out:

1st Work Unit

Within the framework of the 1st Work Unit, coordinated by the Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the following actions have been carried out:

  • From the Laboratory of Plant Physiology & Nutrition, experimental measurements-studies of photosynthesis and growth of the plant were carried out, in order to determine the mechanism of growth – nutrition of the plant.
  • Also by the Laboratory of Plant Physiology & Nutrition, experimental measurements-studies were carried out, in order  to determine the organoleptic quality of the products, to determine the requirements for the improvement of the quality and yield of the crop.
  • Studies were conducted by the Nanotechnology Laboratory for the design of spectral optimal choice of coating material and solvents for its deposition by liquid solutions in order to develop the appropriate methodology for the optimal material selection and the most efficient coating of greenhouse surfaces.

2st Work Unit

Within the framework of the 2nd Work Unit, coordinated by the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Nutrition, the following actions have been carried out:

  • Spectroscopic studies of the coatings were carried out by the Nanotechnology Laboratory and their contribution to the photosynthetically active region of the solar spectrum was examined.
  • At the same time, an evaluation of the coatings was carried out under real conditions.  With the aim of designing and manufacturing the most suitable coatings for the optimal utilization of solar radiation.
  • From the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Nutrition, the standard experimental model of lettuce cultivation  on a laboratory scale was developed, in order to be proposed for large-scale crops.

3st Work Unit

Within the framework of the 3rd Work Unit, coordinated by the Agricultural Cooperative of Bioproducers of Western Greece, the following actions have been carried out:

  • The Agricultural Cooperative of Bioproducers of Western Greece carried  out the construction of two pilot greenhouses for the implementation of the project, one of which carries the innovative active material.
  • The Nanotechnology Laboratory conducted combined studies of the requirements of lettuce with the spectral possibilities that the coating can provide. With parallel corrective interventions in the formulation of the coating material, in order to achieve the maximum result in the yield of the  crop by applying the new – innovative methodology of lettuce cultivation, in real conditions.
  • The Laboratory of Plant Physiology & Nutrition carried out work to determine the organoleptic quality of the final products and to evaluate the productivity of the crop under the new conditions with the new methodology

4st Work Unit

Within the framework of the 4th Work Unit, coordinated by the Laboratory of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering the following actions have been carried out:.

  • The Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Nutrition carried out analyses and processing-evaluation of the experimental measurements and the results for the cultivation after application of the radiation concentrators.
  • The Nanotechnology Laboratory carried out a study of the effects of the application of the coating in combination with the physiological characteristics of plants (photosynthesis, transpiration, etc.) and the appropriate corrective actions were made for further increase of production, while  evaluating the results of the spectral footprint due to the greenhouse coatings with the radiation concentrators.
  • Finally, based on the results of the project, the Nanotechnology Laboratory drew up a business plan for the exploitation of the research results.
